Advertising of products made with tobacco is entirely prohibited in Mexico

On February 17 th , 2022 a Decree amending the General Law for Tobacco Control (“Tobacco Law”) was published in the Federal Official Gazette.

Among the main amendments to the Tobacco Law, it can be found the introduction of the term “emissions” in the regulation of spaces free of tobacco smoke, so that now a space must be a “space 100 percent free of tobacco smoke and emissions”. This is to include within the scope of the Tobacco Law restrictions, all nicotine products. Furthermore, the new restrictions are also extended to spaces of collective attendance, workplaces and public transportation.

However, the main amendment to the Tobacco Law relates to advertising matters and, starting today, all advertising, promotion and sponsorship of products made with tobacco is entirely prohibited.
